Today in History, 1846
Celebrated Composer (The Wedding March)
Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was arrested in Herbesthal, Belgium by mistake. Mendelssohn was confused for his cousin, wanted political advocate, Arnold Mendelssohn. Woops!

Possibly a humbling experience for the "A Midsummer Night's Dream" composer, as his behavior earned him the nickname "discontented Polish count".
He was said to have "fits of temper" leading to being sent to bed, even as an adult, by his father.

*Pictured in the comments* The correct Arnold Mendelssohn! Arnold was a follower of Ferdinand Lassalle, the German socialist. Both were arrested for being agitators, encouraging armed resistance against the state.

Wholesome Wager

"London, Feb. 26. Yesterday at 2 in the Afternoon, a Child about 16 Months old walk'd up and down the Mall in St. James's Park for a considerable Wager, in the midst of a great Number of Spectators. The Wager was laid by the Child's Parents, that it should go under the Irons at each End of the Mall, and walk up and down it without falling down. The Father went before the Child playing with a Top, and it won the Wager, but was an Hour and Half in performing it."

The Mall: During King Charles II reign, in 1660, he ordered the redesign of St. James's Park and this included a centerpiece - a straight canal, 2,560ft long and 125ft wide, lined on each side with avenues of trees.

Chateau De La Lande, a 16th century French chateau.
Once "owned by Anne Marie Louise d'Orléans, Duchess of Montpensier, a cousin of Louis XIV known as "La Grande Mademoiselle".
After a fire in the 1860s, a wing of the Chateau was rebuilt and two towers were added.
The chapel was built in 1865 and dedicated to Saint Joseph.
"It later became the hereditary property of the Marquises de Nadaillac. François-Louis du Pouget de Nadaillac escorted Marie Antoinette to France in 1770."
The current owners operate the castle as a bed and breakfast and it's the subject of their popular YouTube channel: TheChateauDiaries. The channel features repairs, renovations, and home life in the castle. Stephanie Jarvis, a retired opera singer, is the channel's creator and main Chatelaine.

Gustave Razillard, a blind Veteran, sold his dog at auction to support son, Louis, fighting in WW1.
"Then the winner gave the dog back to Razillard."
Unfortunately, the son, Louis Razillard died 1921, overseas, during his service.

Gustave Razillard was a beloved citizen of San Francisco, known as "Blind Gus" and a decorated Veteran.
When little Violette fell ill, her illness was continually covered in the paper. Many subscribers wrote in to help with Vet bills, but it was too late.

Gustave Razillard died not long after his French poodle, Violette, in 1924. "Grief Over Loss of Pet Dog Brings Death to Blind Gus"
