Do you work with runners in your practice? How has reflexology helped them?

Paintings of runners have been found around 15,000 years ago. The first olympic game for runners was in Greece. If this sport is apart of your routine you may also want to consider -- reflexology.

January is awareness month and we want our members and the general public to be aware of the prevalence of illicit massage businesses (IMBs) using the term in their marketing, signage, and menu of services.

These commercial-front brothels claim to provide reflexology or foot massage while selling commercial s*x to s*x buyers. The owners prey on vulnerable women, exploiting them with false promises, threats, debt bo***ge, and intimidation practices. Trafficking cases are often foreign nationals originating from China, South Korea, Mexico, and Thailand. These brothels operate with multiple locations and can net the owner over half a million dollars a year. It's estimated this is a $2.5 billion dollar annual industry in the U.S.

Texas is home to an estimated 700 commercial-front brothels marketing as "foot massage" and "reflexology" spas, one of the highest in the country!

The National Human Trafficking Hotline is 888-373-7888 or a text can be sent to "Be Free" (23373). Suspicious activity can be reported to iwatchtx.org or 844-643-2251.

Marble Falls Reflexologist, Stephanie Tourles, has shared a peek into her treatment room with us. Stephanie graduated from Myra Achorn's reflexology program in 2015 in Maine. She's been practicing in Texas since 2019.

Stephanie's philosophy is that "self care is not an expense, it's an investment!" And we agree!

Our goal through these posts is to introduce our members' spaces to the public and each other. We encourage referrals from allied health fields like massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, and physical therapy. 🤝

Membership is available for students and trained reflexologists. As a self-regulating profession, the Texas Reflexology Association sets the standard in education and professionalism for Texas. 🧑‍🎓
