As of December 7 of this year, 2025, our company, Seize the Day Chair Massage Services, will have been providing chair massage in Austin, Texas and surrounding areas for 30 years. On December 7, 1995, a day which will “live in infamy”, I walked into the Travis County Courthouse and registered the business name. The 2026 SWBYP (Southwestern Bell Telephone Yellow Pages) phone books would come out soon and we would have the only listing specializing in on-site chair massage for groups. Our first job was for a staff appreciation day at Dell Computers in Round Rock. I still remember speaking with their rep on the phone after they had left a message on voice mail. We had no email as of yet. The order form was filled out and sent via fax and I also communicated all the details to the massage therapists with fax. Do you remember when every business had a combination telephone / fax machine?
It’s been quite an evolution ever since; email, internet, websites, web-based quick-quote calculators, on-line order forms, automatically-generated contracts; WORD sign-up sheets, PDF Sign-up sheets, Google.doc Sign-up sheets, On-line sign-up with appointment confirmation email & text notifications with links to cancel/reschedule appointments, Automated Waitlists, and ability to take co-payments with an App on a smart phone, On-line accounting and email invoicing with payment links. My, oh my, how far we have come!
And let’s not forget the introduction of specialized chair massage training for our therapists and the advent contemporary state-of-art massage chairs with greater degrees of customer comfort!
What does the future hold? AI? Chat bots? Voice bots? Real-time access to therapists availability?
Time alone will tell! It’s all about continually making our chair massage service more accessible and user-friendly for our customers.
Stay tuned!
