It is "Random Acts of Kindness Day"! Our Wellness Committee has created a kindness tree to inspire our staff to make someone's day by doing something kind for them. The best part about it is that when you do something nice for someone else, it makes you feel good too! Have you done something nice for someone today or has someone done something nice for you? Tell us about it in the comments!

We were sincerely grateful today when Marsha Leathers stopped by to present our Executive Director, Karen Wolf, with a generous $5,000 donation. This gift comes from part of the proceeds of a mental health awareness benefit that Marsha and Don Leathers held in honor of their son, who tragically died by su***de.
Through their 501(c)(3), Don and Marsha continue to turn heartbreak into hope—donating the funds they raise to organizations that support individuals facing mental health challenges and those working to prevent su***de.
Their generosity, compassion, and commitment to helping others is truly inspiring.
Thank you, Marsha and Don, for your kindness and for the meaningful impact you continue to make in our community.

Several of our residential and outpatient Mental Health Therapists spent the majority of this week participating in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) training with Melissa Kaderabek Quam, MA, LMFT of Clarity Counseling Center. ART is a unique, evidence‑based psychotherapy that helps individuals replace negative mental images with positive ones—often in just a single session—making it a powerful tool for treating trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression, eating disorders, and more.
Throughout this 3‑day training, our clinicians strengthened their skills in ART’s rapid, brain‑based techniques that support healing from distressing memories, intrusive thoughts, and overwhelming symptoms.
Why we’re excited about ART:
• ART is known for its rapid and lasting results
• Clients do not have to discuss their distressing memories in detail
• Therapists can apply what they learn right away
• It’s accessible, evidence‑based, and widely adopted for improving outcomes
We’re proud of our team for continuing to grow their expertise so we can offer even more effective, compassionate care to the individuals and families we support.

We are truly humbled and grateful. Thanks to an extraordinary $5.3 million grant from the Hormel Foundation, our long-held dream is becoming reality: we will be building two new dorms for the youth we serve.
These dorms will transform the treatment experience by giving more of our youth their own individual room—a space that offers privacy, security, and a sense of belonging.
This milestone has been years in the making, and it’s possible because of our incredible partners; the Hormel Foundation and the Austin Community Charitable Fund. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission and helping us create a brighter future for these young lives.

Changing Lives

Nexus-Gerard Family Healing is located on a beautiful 12-acre campus in Austin, MN, that once served as the Hormel Estate. The site has retained many of its homelike charms, including the family living room, cozy bedrooms, entry drive, gardens, and trees. A nature preserve is adjacent to the property, and wild turkeys and deer are often seen roaming the grounds.

Nexus-Gerard provides an array of individualized mental health services for boys, girls, teens, adults, and families. Nexus-Gerard’s history began in the 1960s, when it was founded as the Gerard School, a treatment site for the care of children. Throughout the years, it has been known as Gerard of Minnesota, Gerard Treatment Programs, Gerard Academy, and, today, Nexus-Gerard Family Healing — but it has always retained its focus of caring for children and families.

Nexus-Gerard has demonstrated excellence in its treatment approach and was awarded Provider of the Year by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in 2012. In 2015, Nexus-Gerard opened an outpatient program to serve children, teens, adults, and families in the community in answer to County and School needs for mental health services in the area.
