Dr. Paul combined training in ophthalmic plastic surgery and ophthalmology has unique abilities to perform a host of delicate procedures around the eyes while taking advantage of opportunities to cosmetically enhance a patient’s appearance. His skill set complements the expertise of every ophthalmic and optometric physician and makes an important contribution to the services of practitioners in other medical disciplines. Cosmetic surgery is generally perceived as a “beautification” procedure rather than as the repair of a physical flaw. Most of the work ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeons perform strikes a balance between surgical science and facial appearance. They apply their knowledge of ophthalmology, anatomy and tissue behavior, as well as an awareness of existing limitations, with the wisdom to know what to do and why. Some of the more common problems treated surgically include droopy brows, droopy lids, redundant upper and lower eyelid skins, furrows on the forehead and around the eyes, and congenital disfigurements.

Today we’re demonstrating an Eggcelent instrument we use here at Austin Face & Body during rhinoplasty: the ultrasonic piezotome (or “piezo”).🤝

This technology allows us to precisely reshape the bony structure of the nose while minimizing trauma. Compared to traditional tools, the piezo offers less swelling, less bruising, and significantly more precision - especially when addressing the bony pyramid of the nose.👃

To illustrate how it works, we demonstrated on an egg. While the outer shell is hard and calcium-based (just like bone), the inner membrane is delicate. The piezo allows us to make controlled cuts through the hard outer layer while preserving the internal membrane, mirroring how we protect the natural membranous structures inside the nose.👏

Precision matters. Preservation matters. And technology like this helps us deliver refined, thoughtful results.🥚✨

There are three simple steps to achieving a smoother, more refreshed lower eyelid contour ✨

First: it starts with a one-on-one consultation. We take the time to analyze your unique eyelid structure and how the fat, muscle, and skin work together, then create a treatment plan that’s completely customized to you.🤝

Second: during surgery, we carefully refine the eyelid by repositioning, removing, or adding fat as needed, addressing excess skin, and reinforcing muscle when necessary to restore support and balance.🙌
