In 1849, Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell made history as the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States. After being told no by nearly a dozen schools, Dr. Blackwell was admitted to Geneva Medical College as a joke. Her persistence paved the way for every woman wearing a white coat today 🥼

Today, we celebrate you, the healers, the researchers, the mentors, and the trailblazers who continue to redefine what's possible in medicine. To our female members and leaders, thank you for your dedication! 🌟

JANUARY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Dr. Sumana Kumarappa🌟
Early in her medical career, Dr. Sumana Kumarappa was reminded that longevity in medicine requires intention—protecting curiosity and nurturing interests outside of work. “The best advice I have ever received,” she says, “is to practice medicine with excellence but build a life that sustains you.” Read more: https://imis.texmed.org/TMAiMis/Travis/Communications/Member_Spotlight.aspx
