We are excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Alireza “Shami” Shamshirsaz, MD, MHCM, FACOG, as Director of our Comprehensive Fetal Care Center and Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine & Surgery. 👏

An internationally recognized maternal-fetal medicine specialist and fetal surgeon, he brings exceptional leadership and expertise from premier academic medical centers to expand advanced fetal diagnosis, intervention and surgical treatments for families in Central Texas and beyond. 🏥✨

He will also serve as a Professor in the Department of Women’s Health at The Dell Medical School - UT Austin, strengthening our academic mission. 🎓

Dell Children’s Medical Center with Dell Medical School - UT Austin is celebrating a remarkable milestone: 50 pediatric heart transplants completed since launching our advanced heart program just five years ago.

What began as a bold vision in 2018 has transformed into one of the nation’s leading destinations for pediatric and congenital heart care. Along the way, our team has delivered several historic firsts for Texas and for children across the country, including the state’s first pediatric partial heart transplant and the world’s youngest Berlin Heart recipient at only 24 hours old.

This year, the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease was ranked Top 10 in the nation for Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery by U.S. News & World Report, recognizing our outstanding outcomes and the extraordinary care provided by our surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, intensivists, anesthesiologists, APPs, perfusionists, and every member of our heart team.

Many teens with life-threatening heart conditions have no symptoms. Screening can be the only way to catch dangerous risks early.

Championship Hearts Foundation, in partnership with Dell Children’s, will host additional screenings throughout the year, making it easier for you to protect your athletes on and off the field.

Be proactive. Encourage your youth athletes to get screened and help keep them safe where it matters most.

What a way to spend National Heart Screening Day! Last weekend’s screening event with Championship Hearts Foundation was a success, and seeing so many teens show up to be proactive about their health was the ultimate highlight!
