Let's talk shoulders!
Did you know that there are 20 muscles that attach to your scapula? That's that chicken wing bone you call your shoulder blade.
Those muscles provide stability and articulation of your arm, shoulder, and neck. But when your muscles get locked down from tension, usually coming from the front side of the body, you feel achiness, stiffness, and soreness in between your spine and shoulder blade.
We spend a lot of time leaning forward and looking down. That extra 5-10lbs of pressure from your head not in alignment with your neck pulls on the muscles of the upper back causing them to weaken over time from being lengthened. Your shoulders round forward to relieve strain on the neck.
Think of a rubber band or a hair tie--when you overstretch it so many times, the band loses its elasticity and does not go back to its original tension.
The same thing happens to your muscles when you don't strengthen the areas that stay lengthened over periods of time.
So the next time you find yourself in shrimp 🦐 mode, take a deep breath and roll those shoulders and head back. When you find yourself there again, book a session with me.
