From the desk of Tom Manley, CEO, TMF Health Quality Institute:

This year's theme for National Public Health Week — Ready. Set. Action! — highlights how public health improves daily life, protects families, extends life spans and strengthens communities. This is also a time to recognize the efforts of public health workers whose research and advocacy every day helps us understand why we should continue to make smart choices for our own health and that of our loved ones.

April is Autism Acceptance Month — a time to learn, understand and embrace the diversity in our community. Autism includes a wide range of experiences and strengths. But too often, people on the autism spectrum and the caregivers who support them face stigma, discrimination and unfair judgment. This is harmful, leaves a lasting impact and we can't ignore it.

When we take the time to learn about autism, listen to the voices of people in the autism community and challenge our assumptions, we help build a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Autism acceptance is everyone’s responsibility.
