Texas CNOs, your input is needed.

Texas CNOs, your input is needed.

The Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies (TCNWS) at the Department of State Health Services is asking all Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) of hospitals in Texas to complete a survey for Spring 2026. Data collected from this survey will help guide stakeholders and legislators in developing policy recommendations and establishing legislative priorities. TCNWS is the only organization that collects this important information.

We encourage you to fill out the paper version of the survey first along with operational definitions here: (https://tcnws.gov1.qualtrics.com/ControlPanel/File.php?F=F_FwxRCEETwIzRfFw), then complete the survey online for submission (https://tcnws.gov1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_390PdE6M8stFd1c).

The survey is available NOW and will close May 15th, 2026.
You can see the full results from the previous staffing studies by clicking here: 2024 Hospital Nurse Staffing Survey (HNSS) (https://www.dshs.texas.gov/center-health-statistics/texas-center-nursing-workforce-studies/employer-nurse-staffing-studies).

Your participation is vital to shaping the future of nursing in Texas!

Texas nurses, get ready for changes to license renewal process.
02/26/2026

Texas nurses, get ready for changes to license renewal process.

Beginning September 1, 2026, all nurses will be required to upload their completed CEs into a digital tracking platform prior to license renewal. A license will not be eligible for renewal until all CE requirements have been met. The Texas Board of Nursing is in the process of selecting a tracking platform vendor and will send out updates and instructions as they become available.

Please note that CNE hourly requirements have not changed.

How to Prepare:
• Start collecting copies of all CEs now so you are ready to upload once a platform opens!
• Take CE courses from reputable providers who are on the Board-recognized CE provider list.
• Check that you meet all CE requirements, including targeted CE (See Board Rule 216 for more information).
• Stay alert for further guidance from the Texas Board of Nursing on when and how to transition your CE records to the new platform. More information will be published over the upcoming months. Please sign up for our Bulletin to stay informed:(https://www.bon.texas.gov/about_newsletters.asp.html).
