Plastic surgery Question: When will my scars heal?

As a plastic surgeon I’ve been trained to meticulously close incisions with multiple layers of dissolving stitches. That being said, the majority of how you heal depends on your genetics!

Wound healing is a complex pathway and many factors are involved. Did you know the strength of a scar is never 100% of its pre-injury strength?!

That being said, at about 3 weeks most incisions are closed. This is why starting at 3 weeks we change your scar care regimen. It takes about a year, though, for your scar to reach its final state. So be patient with your healing journey.
