Is it worth traveling for surgery?

This week, I operated on a patient who came all the way from Kansas to Austin.

This patient came in with a significant valgus (knock-knee) deformity. The ligament was already compromised, and experience tells me it would continue to stretch over time.
My philosophy? Fix it right the first time.
So we went with a hinge knee implant to substitute the ligament altogether. This gives her the stability she needs and keeps her out of the OR in the future.
The right solution at the right time is what long-term outcomes are made of.
