Children who internalize their struggles often go unnoticed, presenting as quiet, compliant, or withdrawn while experiencing emotional distress. This workshop equips participants with tools to recognize, conceptualize, and work with internalizing behaviors through a culturally responsive play therapy lens. Participants will learn how to use Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) techniques to create safety, build self-expression, and strengthen the therapeutic relationship. Emphasis will be placed on understanding how cultural context influences children’s expression of distress and their comfort with vulnerability.

In this workshop, you’ll:
✨ Identify common presentations and cultural and environmental influences related to internalizing behaviors in children to be effective in the play therapy process
✨ Apply Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) techniques to help children with internalizing behaviors express emotions, build self-awareness, and develop coping skills.
✨Implement effective play therapy strategies for engaging parents in the therapeutic process to support emotional regulation, resilience, and continued growth at home.

✨ New Resource in the Ensemble Learning Center ✨

🌿 Limit Setting Guide: Using the ACT Method

Children feel safest when their world has clear, consistent boundaries. But setting limits doesn’t have to mean conflict—it can actually deepen connection when done with empathy.

This guide introduces the ACT method (Acknowledge, Communicate, Target), a simple 3-step framework to set boundaries that are calm, consistent, and caring. Inside you’ll find:
✔️ Step-by-step breakdown of the ACT method
✔️ Why limits build safety, self-control, and responsibility
✔️ Rules of thumb for staying steady (like say it calmly, like “the sky is blue”)
✔️ Real-life sample scripts for common scenarios
✔️ Space to practice writing your own

💡 Ways this helps connection: You’ll feel more confident setting firm boundaries while still preserving trust and care in your relationship.

Even with solid training in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), it’s completely normal to face challenges in the playroom that leave you feeling stuck! (Let’s be honest — grad school can’t prepare you for everything.)
In this presentation, you’ll examine eight common play therapy dilemmas using a CCPT lens and learn practical, connection-preserving strategies to navigate them.

In this workshop, you’ll:
✨ Identify common challenges play therapists experience in session, and conceptualize them from a Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) lens.
✨Apply targeted CCPT strategies that help clients navigate obstacles and make meaningful progress in play therapy.
✨Discuss the reasoning behind integrating techniques from other play therapy theories in order to effectively respond to diverse clinical situations.
