What do you do as a therapist to stay healthy?"

"Being a massage therapist for over twenty years takes a toll on my body. However, it has also lead me to a healthy lifestyle. In addition to trying to eat healthy, I have to really focus on getting enough of the right foods, especially adequate protein, in order to do several massages a day. I have to block out time each day for exercise. I incorporate a variety of mobility and strength exercises not just for my health but to allow me to continue providing massage for my clients. Recovery days are crucial to allow our bodies time to do what it is designed to do. I struggle with this but have found light yoga to be a good recovery option for me. "

Healthy living doesn’t have to mean living at the gym or giving up the foods you love. It’s about creating balance, moving your body, nourishing it well, and still enjoying life in between.
Start small.
*Take a walk on your lunch break.
*Add one more serving of veggies to dinner.
*Drink a little extra water each day.
*Prioritize rest just as much as workouts.
When fitness and nutrition become part of your routine, not your entire world , you’ll find that your energy, mood, and confidence all rise naturally.

Shellie Williams, BCTMB, LMT

Shellie is a Licensed Massage Therapist and is Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (BCTMB), the highest level of credentialing in the massage profession. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Young University – Idaho and her massage training at Ashmead College in Vancouver, Washington in 2004. Shellie has had experience working in chiropractic offices, day spas, and natural birth centers in Oregon, Idaho, and Texas. Her experience has given her a varied and in-depth understanding of bodywork. She has extensive training in Swedish massage, Deep Tissue massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Sports massage, Prenatal massage, and massage cupping. She believes regular massage creates a healthier, pain-free lifestyle. She has a great love for the massage profession, alternative medicine, fitness, and nutrition. Whether you are recovering from an injury or just need a relaxing massage, Shellie can adapt her massage to meet your individual needs.
