Central Texas Schools have a unique opportunity to recognize their K-12 students who are part of a military family, during April, Month of the Military Child. The Hope for Heroes team at Samaritan Center is pleased to announce that registration is open through March 13th for our 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗽! 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 honoring military-connected students in your school community.

A brief, school-based ceremony designed to recognize and celebrate the strength, resilience, and unique experiences of students connected to military service.

▪ A meaningful on-campus certificate presentation hosted by our Hope for Heroes team

This event is intended exclusively for participating schools and their identified military-connected students. Today, Samaritan Center's 𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 and 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 had a wonderful opportunity to hear from Dr. Brad Verhulst from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine at Texas A&M University during our 𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎 micro-training time.

It was fascinating to hear about his research and findings in psychiatric genetic comorbidity, and hear current information about how genetics may impact certain psychiatric and behavioral conditions, as well as the need for more research.

February is 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉!

𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒚 is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that utilizes play activities and materials to help children express their feelings and resolve psychological difficulties. It is based on the understanding that children often communicate more effectively through play than with words. Play therapy can address various issues including anxiety, trauma and behavior problems.

Samaritan Center has TWO Registered Play Therapist Supervisors who, in addition to providing play therapy, can also supervise other therapists who are embarking on the 2-3 year journey of becoming a Registered Play Therapist.
