the vagus nerve is the largest in our body
it controls much of how we move and FEEL
this simple breathing technique can:
1. lower blood pressure
2. decrease inflammation
3. promote feelings of comfort and well being
all this by nourishing the vagus nerve meaning it aligns our sympathetic (fight and flight system) with our parasympathetic (calm, relaxed) nervous system
in our evolutionary history, we would invoke the sympathetic nervous system to gather food or hunt for it. This would be followed by a period of relaxation where the parasympathetic nervous system is invoked. In our current society and civilization, we tend to live in a ratio of more sympathetic than parasympathetic tone. This leads to a lot of the problems I see as a doctor such as high blood pressure and when it comes to inflammation, this is the cause of many chronic illnesses, including depression, diabetes, strokes, heart attacks.
Look forward to more simple tools I will share on nourishing our vagus nerve.
