📊 GI Case Study: From Chronic Risk to Best-in-Class Performance

A gastroenterology practice came to us operating at more than 2× industry benchmark levels for Insurance A/R >90 days — facing a complex payor mix with recurring authorization and denial challenges.

Industry Benchmarks:
HFMA Best Practice: ≤15% Insurance AR >90
MGMA GI Benchmark: 15–20% (Top performers 90
✔ >85% total improvement from baseline
✔ Single-digit AR >90 achieved and sustained
✔ Performance elevated to elite GI levels

PayrHealth helped convert Insurance A/R over 90 days from a chronic financial risk into a measurable competitive advantage.

Growth isn’t just about adding locations.

It’s about protecting margin structure.

Too often, expansion conversations focus on footprint — new providers, new markets, new service lines.

But sustainable growth depends on what sits underneath:
• Contract structure
• Reimbursement alignment
• Credentialing efficiency
• Revenue cycle ex*****on

If margin protection isn’t built into the foundation, expansion only magnifies inefficiencies.

Real growth is structural.

Revenue leakage doesn’t start in billing.

It starts in misalignment.

Behind the scenes, three functions determine whether a healthcare organization protects its margins:

• Contracting – Defines reimbursement terms and protections
• Credentialing – Determines network participation and effective dates
• Revenue Cycle – Executes against those terms

When these operate in silos:
• Contract protections go unused
• Enrollment lapses trigger denials
• Fee schedules don’t match billing logic
• Retro denials go unchallenged

True revenue alignment happens when these teams work together — not separately.

That integration is where margin protection lives.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Shelly Young, VP of Credentialing 🌟

With over 25 years in healthcare, Shelly brings deep industry expertise and steady leadership to PayrHealth. She began her career in 1999, working in an ophthalmology practice and hospital billing office before transitioning into provider enrollment and credentialing in 2008. Since becoming VP in 2021, she has continued to elevate our credentialing operations — and in 2025, she earned her CPMSM certification.

What excites Shelly most about her role?

“I love that every day is different and time passes quickly. I love that we are able to help new practices get started and existing practices thrive.”

What makes the PayrHealth team different?

“Several members of my team have been working alongside me for nearly a decade — which is rare in today’s environment. That longevity speaks to the strength of our culture and the commitment we have to one another and to our clients. Our leadership team is always looking for ways to improve and evolve, and ideas are thoughtfully considered. That openness allows us to continuously refine how we serve our clients.”

Fun facts about Shelly:

💪 She’s been lifting weights and doing CrossFit 5–6 days a week since 2015 and believes muscle is one of the most important investments we can make as we age.
👶 She became a Grandma (Nana!) in January 2025.
🎙 Favorite podcast: The Barbell Spin — especially since her son is on it. 🙂

We’re grateful for Shelly’s leadership, expertise, and the strength she brings to our team every day.

Renegotiating payor contracts?

Before you focus on rate increases, make sure you’re not overlooking the structural terms that truly determine long-term reimbursement performance.

In our latest blog, we break down the 5 biggest contract renegotiation mistakes providers make, including:

• Focusing only on percentage increases
• Negotiating without benchmarking data
• Ignoring denial trends tied to contract language
• Waiting too long to start
• Treating contracting, credentialing, and RCM as separate functions

Contract renegotiation isn’t just about higher rates — it’s about stronger positioning.

On World Health Day 🌍, we’re reminded that strong healthcare systems rely on more than clinical excellence—they depend on sustainable operations, fair reimbursement, and access to the resources providers need to serve their communities.

As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, data-driven decision-making and proactive strategy are critical to improving outcomes for both organizations and the patients they support. At PayrHealth, we’re committed to helping healthcare organizations strengthen their financial foundation so they can focus on what matters most: delivering quality care.

📍Dialysis ASC Expands Across 19 States — And Uncovers 10 Years of Underpayments

A Miami-based Ambulatory Surgical Center specializing in dialysis care partnered with PayrHealth to support multi-state growth and strengthen its payor position.
The challenge:

The organization lacked internal resources to manage legal entity updates, secure new priority contracts, and credential new providers. During the process, our team uncovered that one payor had been underpaying the ASC for nearly a decade.

📊 The results:
• 9 new payor contracts executed
• Contracts renegotiated across 19 states
• Credentialing completed with 11 payors
• Access to 7.7 million additional potential patients

By combining payor contracting, analytics, and credentialing strategy, the ASC not only corrected historical underpayments — but positioned itself for scalable, long-term growth.

Revenue performance isn’t accidental. It’s engineered.

If you’re evaluating outdated contracts or expanding into new markets, we’d welcome the opportunity to connect.
