April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and at the SIMS Foundation we literally could not do our work without the help of our amazing volunteers!

Thanks to one of our longtime volunteers, Stephanie Holmes, who shares with our Director of Operations Conrado Markel why she thinks it's important to be involved with our community. 🫶

If you were following our April Fools post yesterday, you may know the SIMS team is not actually a rock band (yet 😉).

But for those who may be new to our page, here’s what we actually do.

SIMS Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting musicians, music industry professionals, and their family members across Central Texas by providing access to mental health care and substance use recovery services.

None of this would be possible without our incredible community of donors, volunteers, and supporters—like you. 🤍

Want to learn more? Head to simsfoundation.org!

(And thank you for all the clever band name suggestions yetserday, including but not limited to: The April Fools, The 501(c)(3)s and The Mental Health Band!)

From live shows to Sober Space hosted by SIMS Foundation, SXSW 2026 truly captured the spirit of why we support the Central Texas music community.

As we reflect on an incredible week filled with connection, music, and community, we want to share a few snapshots from the journey... including unforgettable performances from Nakia and Erin Walter Music of Parker Woodland along with our SIMS team out and about.

We enjoyed the opportunity to speak on the panel, “How to Not Lose Your Head While Pursuing Your Biggest Dreams" at the Spark Your Flow event.

SIMS Foundation, CEO, Derrick Lesnau, shared some insights, and we appreciate the chance to talk about our mission.

We’re also thankful for the strong music community around us—one that we’re honored to support in staying healthy, grounded, and thriving.

Thank you to CBS We Are Austin and Trevor Scott for hosting us and giving our Board Chair Marissa Rivera and our Director of Operations Conrado Markel the opportunity to talk about how SIMS Foundation will be hosting Sober Space all throughout SXSW!

Sober Space offers SXSW attendees a supportive, substance-free place to recharge, connect, and take care of their well-being during the high-energy conference, as we know many need extra support in avoiding substances during times like these.

You can find Sober Space in Brazos Hall at the JW Marriott every day of the conference from 4-5 p.m. Reach out with questions! 💙
