Deep Massage Society Professional FB page of David Lauterstein, co-author, The Memory Palace of Bones & Deep Massage Book

While I enjoy "Deep Massage Society", over the years I have become less happy with facebook. When I post something here, due to facebook algorithms, many people who follow this page, never receive the writings. So, two years ago I started a free newsletter, "Putting the Soul Back in the Body". It is there that I put virtually all of my new writings, that previously would have been on Deep Massage

Society. So if you like this page, and want to assure that you will receive basically all my new writing, please subscribe to the free newsletter - I think you'll enjoy it even more! https://www.david-lauterstein.com/newsletter-signup

The ideas on this page and in the newsletter are drawn from a similar perspective as my teaching and my book - The Deep Massage Book, subtitled "How to Combine Structure and Energy in Bodywork", which singularly explores a new philosophy and practice of massage, describing an approach to touch therapy that affects clients deeply, not necessarily with more pressure, but with a more profound and vital connection. In a world where virtual reality holds prominence, hunger for the experience of actual reality and kindness becomes more pronounced and urgently necessary.

For any of you who've enjoyed my past newsletters, I've been so busy and preoccupied with the Masters in Fine Arts program through Pacific University, studying poetry, that I haven't felt the space to do a new newsletter in months! Rest assured, it'll get another done one of these days, though it'll be more likely to have as much to do with poetry as with bodywork. But music - the body - poetry - they're all soul expressions. Maybe that will be the theme!

Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method combines a focus on the muscles, fascia, and the nervous system with insights from Zero Balancing regarding how to cultivate the highest quality of touch.

In this special 4-day workshop, David Lauterstein the founder of The Lauterstein - Conway Massage School in the U.S. and of this special method of bodymind work will instruct you in all the techniques (aka “fulcrums”), covered in his classic, “The Deep Massage Book: How to Combine Structure and Energy in Bodywork”.

The benefits for your clients will be:

relief from chronic pain and tension
experience of greater freedom in the joints
more balanced and graceful movement
a sense of greater wholeness and peace
enhanced compassion for oneself and others
experiencing spiritual as well as physical benefits
You will learn new ways to relieve tension and pain from the:

calves, knees, thighs and hips
pelvis, including the iliopsoas
abdomen, affecting the vagus nerve
chest (opening up the heart and shoulders)
low, mid, and upper back
the rotator cuff and arm
neck and head (including the jaw and the suboccipital muscles)
We need to work with the whole person not only to solve problems but also to facilitate their experience of the body mind as the source of pleasure and grace.

You will learn new observation skills as well, as modelled by Ida Rolf, Feldenkrais, Trager, and Dr. Fritz Smith (Zero Balancing’s founder) to use your eyes as a kind of third hand. All these new skills will deepen your ability to help the clients let go from “inside out”, not with more pressure but with greater sensitivity, kindness, and knowledge.

In this workshop Deep Massage will be integrated with some techniques/fulcrums drawn from Zero Balancing. This will facilitate the release of tension from the skeletal side of the musculo - skeletal system. When we help the clients to let go on the level of the joints, the periosteum, and the bone itself, the therapeutic effects will be more profound and longer-lasting.

David Lauterstein has been teaching Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method since 1984, first at the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, then at The Lauterstein - Conway Massage School in Austin, Texas and in workshops for 40 years throughout the U.S., Costa Rica and the UK. He has also been a certified teacher of Zero Balancing since 1996.

He is the author of five books including: Putting the Soul Back in the Body, The Deep Massage Book, Life in the Bones and The Memory Palace of Bones (co-authored with Dr. Jeff Rockwell). He is known as perhaps the foremost proponent for the integration of the art and science in bodywork, with a prior degree in music composition (see YouTube for his recording of “Roots and Branches”).

This year marks his 10th anniversary of teaching at the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork.

The Memory Palace of Bones: Exploring Embodiment through the Skeletal System Paperback

by Jeff Rockwell (Author), David Lauterstein (Author)
4.5 out of 5 stars (22)

The Memory Palace of Bones: Exploring Embodiment Through the Skeletal System is an unprecedented exploration of the anatomy of the bones of the body, and a unique set of reflections on the role each individual bone plays in our lives, looking at both its physical and energetic contributions.

Written and presented in an imaginative and highly readable style, the book describes each individual bone and, where appropriate, the surrounding joints. It combines the anatomical expertise of the authors with their appreciation for the beauty of the body, presenting a unique perspective that values extensive clinical expertise as well as imagination as a source of wisdom and depth.

Seeing and discussing bones as a wisdom source is a topic that until now has never been systematically covered. The Memory Palace of Bones will be read and treasured by practitioners and students of massage therapy, bodywork, movement professionals, Zero Balancers, chiropractors, osteopaths, Rolfers, body-centered psychotherapists, students and teachers of yoga, performing artists and other health professionals as well as by laymen wanting a greater understanding of and connection to their bodies' wisdom and poetry.

ZERO BALANCING I and II - July 17-19 and 24-26 AT THE LAUTERSTEIN-CONWAY MASSAGE SCHOOL

I just had the most wonderful, big group for a workshop on the Iliopsoas. The next class I'm teaching is a combination of Zero Balancing I and II in Austin in mid-July. ZB I and II are the core 50 of the 100 hours required for certification in Zero Balancing.

Zero Balancing is, for me, the most advanced and interesting form of advanced bodywork. It works with a deep faith in the client's ability to let go from inside-out. It focuses on the connective tissues of the muscles, joints and bones. It refines your touch and awareness of both energy and structure in ways that will vastly benefit your work and your life!

The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School offers informative and enriching workshops to complete your massage therapy continuing education hours.
