In my business, I usually shy away from posting anything political. As a practitioner, I aim to take a neutral stance in the office. Regardless of my own political opinions, I strive to be free of judgement and to create a safe place for my patients to have full expression of self and not to be hindered by potentially offending me or not stating their truth.
Yesterday, I spent the morning in tears, posting my anger, sadness and shock on my personal IG account and was grateful I had a later start to the day to get some of the grief out. I then grappled all day yesterday about what to do with my business account. Staying silent felt so wrong, but I also felt a need to stick to my guns in being absent on political matters to not upset anyone or potentially cause any uncomfortable scenarios with patients.
Last night, I couldn’t sleep and continued to struggle, when I came to realization that: a) this was just too important and b) this isn’t mere politics. This is about fundamental human rights and a denial of those rights that puts the safety and health of women in serious jeopardy.
Abortion is not just terminating a pregnancy- which is an incredibly difficult decision and experience to go through regardless. It’s also about saving women’s lives. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, without an abortion, you’ll die. If you have a miscarriage that your body can’t release, without an abortion, you’ll die. These are just a couple of examples- there are many more.
Forcing women of r**e and in**st to bear that child is horrifying. Not allowing women to make decisions with their doctors about their own bodies is horrifying. Revoking Roe puts so many at risk physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially. I’m horrified that young women today have less rights than women of the last 50 years and even more horrified that rights protecting contraception and gay marriage are suddenly in jeopardy.
