I made it to 36.
Back in 2009, I didn’t believe that was possible.
I was in my second year playing college football.
Everyone looked up to me, but inside, I was suffocating. I remember crossing the street, wishing someone would run me over.
I was angry at God. I’d say, “Why would You make me so good at something I hate?”
I knew I was blessed, but I just couldn’t shake the heaviness.
No matter how hard I tried, it wouldn’t go away. It felt like I was trapped in a well, the light getting dimmer every day.
Then I got a concussion during spring ball, which eventually led to a medical scholarship.
It turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Sure, I missed parts of football, but stepping away allowed me to help in the weight room and focus on my calling.
It wasn’t easy.
There was uncertainty, anger, and the constant question—“What now?”
In the years that followed, I poured myself into Strongman and bodybuilding while finishing my degree in Fitness & Health Promotion.
It became my outlet. A way to release the frustration and shed the mask I’d worn for so long—football.
And I learned three things that changed my life:
1. You are not what you do.
2. Everything happens for a reason.
3. If you let it, life happens for you, not to you.
Being in shape is great, but without the spiritual and mental sides, you’re left empty.
My transformation started with dropping from 305 to 235.
Reconnecting with God and no longer carrying the weight of the world alone.
Changing my mindset through mentors, books, and surrounding myself with the right people.
Through this process, I rebuilt my habits and became a new man.
In the end, we have to:
Be something new.
Do what’s required.
To have what we truly want.
Now, I have the blessing of walking other men through their own journey.
