Living Anew Therapeutic Massage, Megan Crystal-Mendes, LMT, CEIM Living Anew Therapeutic Massage is dedicated to empowering you through self-care education and bodywork to feel and be at your best. What a great concept!

Every session will be specific to your needs and hopefully leave you feeling lighter, looser, and happier! Living Anew Therapeutic Massage is owned and operated by Megan (Crystal) Mendes, LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist). She has been practicing Therapeutic Massage for 16 years. Megan began her training (unknowingly) in 1999 when she entered the University of Oklahoma where she completed a Bachelors Degree of Science in Health and Sports Sciences. While at OU she threw the Shot Put and Discus for the Track Team all four years. Upon graduation, and after many experiences with her own body, injuries through throwing, Olympic style lifting, and intense training, she decided soft tissue bodywork was her calling. A beginning in structural bodywork seemed perfect so she enrolled in Massage School. A little over a year later she attained an Associates Degree of Therapeutic Massage at Heritage College in Oklahoma City. Over the years, she has compiled many techniques and healing modalities including Deep Tissue, Myofacial Release, Passive Release, Active Release, Joint Mobilization Stretching, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Jin Shin Do, Sports, Lymphatic Drainage, Pre and Post Natal, among others, to create a specialized session for your specific needs. Emotional/mental work will sometimes be utilized, along with the physical work as it's also very important to understand how we manifest emotions physically through stress, worry, guilt, and other negative emotions. We can change our thoughts to better serve our bodies and Megan is always happy to facilitate a mental shift. As a wise Chiropractor/Healer once said, "There is no difference between the emotional body and the physical body but a label". My session with you will be one of education, listening, communication, and healing. One thing I feel very strongly about is making sure you have a better understanding of your body and how it functions in your daily life as well as posing solutions to promote self-care. I want you to feel your best and have the tools you need to work on your own Self. Megan was born in Carlsbad, NM along with her twin brother, Josh. After living in Louisiana then Oklahoma for the greater part of her life, Megan moved to Austin in February of 2006. Here in Austin, she has met many wonderful people and also has family nearby. She enjoys spending time with all of them and of course her boyfriend, Brian. In her spare time, she enjoys hearing live music, camping, kayaking, hiking, cooking, meeting new people, and watching a good movie. Of all the places I have lived, Austin just feels like home. I have enjoyed my time in Texas and look forward to the new adventures ahead with Living Anew Therapeutic Massage as well as all the new people I'll meet and can help through it.

- Much Gratitude! Megan

There's no getting around the energy of this new year!
2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse 🐓 šŸ”„ It represents rapid change, bold action, passion and high energy. It is fast-paced and dynamic. It asks us to leave behind old beliefs and routines that no longer serve us. But not in a slow, pensive way like last year in the year of the snake šŸ, slowly shedding its skin.
This fire horse energy calls us to leave those things behind in an instant. To be confident and sure in our movements. To be swift and brisk. To take risks and bold moves forward. It gives us motivation and purpose. It drives us.
With this momentum and speed, it is essential to stay grounded and tethered to the stability of our Selves. To be strong and secure in who we are so we don't burn out or feel drained by the chaos around us. It asks us to rely on the yin reserves of calm and power that we have cultivated this winter ā„ļø
Let acupuncture help you maintain the balance this year - schedule through the link in my bio.
Buckle up and enjoy the ride, kids! šŸŽ ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

Massage and Cupping Therapies can help with chronically tight muscles that stretching alone cannot fix.

It accomplishes this by physically breaking down restrictive adhesions, increasing local blood flow to elevate tissue temperature, and calming the nervous system to force muscle relaxation.

It works on a deeper, structural level to release muscle adhesions, increase elasticity, and rebalance tension.

Book a session to see how regular Massage or Cupping Therapy might help you feel more free to move about your life less restricted.

Have you had past injuries, surgeries, or accidents that left you with scar tissue and less range of motion? This post is for you!!!

What is Scar Tissue?

Scar tissue isĀ a thick, fibrous connective tissue consisting primarily of collagen that replaces healthy skin or internal tissue after injury, surgery, or inflammation. It is a natural part of the healing process, acting as a patch to repair damage, but it differs from normal tissue by being less elastic, weaker, and often forming adhesions that can restrict movement and cause pain.Ā

How can Massage and Cupping Help?

Massage therapy helps remodel scar tissue by increasing blood flow, breaking down adhesions, and improving tissue flexibility, which enhances range of motion and reduces pain. Cupping Therapy uses suction to lift and separate skin, fascia, and muscle layers. This process brings in more blood flow which also helps to reduce pain, improve circulation and relax tissues. Both modalities work to soften and flattens raised, stiff, or adhered scars, typically starting 2–3 weeks post-surgery once the wound is fully healed.Ā

Post-workout soreness is real! DOMS, or delayed onset muscle soreness, can feel like your body is it fighting back and wants you to stop your new active life. DON’T GIVE IN!

Massage can help! Studies show that massage significantly decreases muscle soreness at 24, 48, and 72 hours after exercise.

This is through increasing blood flow, reducing muscle stiffness, and improving flexibility.

Come see how we can improve your recovery time to keep you on track for your fitness goals.

Let’s talk about ways to care for your Self before and after a massage that can increase the benefits of the massage, and also help prevent soreness.Ā

Before a massage make sure you:

1. Are hydrated.

2. Haven’t eaten a super heavy meal.

Communicate with the Massage Therapist about pressure and pain before and during your massage. More is not always better. Feeling like you want to hold your breath to ā€œgrin and bear itā€ during a massage is actually counter productive and can create undue stress and tension.Ā

My favorite post-massage routine is this:Ā

1. Try to get to the massage already hydrated and continue drinking water after the massage. 50 to 70% of our body is water. (Not tea or coffee, contrary to popular belief, ha). Being properly hydrated helps with recovery, aiding in tissue repair, and encouraging flexibility.Ā

2. Epsom Salt Bath! I have been known to throw in 2-3s of epsom salt to a bath with random essential oils for aroma therapy, like lavender and Bergemot for a calming and relaxing effect, as well as certain oils that might help with muscle pain, like Turmeric and Copaiba. Make sure the bathwater is warm to hot, and try to stay in at least 20 minutes, but you can stay longer if you want. The magnesium in the Epsom salt helps to further relax the muscles.
If you have questions about epsom salt baths and whether or not its indicated for you, please consult your doctor.Ā

3. Eat a heathy meal, and maybe do some stretching before bed.Ā

It’s important to know that many people get sore after massages. It shouldn’t be so painful you can’t function, but like a muscle soreness after a workout. I still get sore sometimes, even after all these yearsĀ  of getting massage and bodywork fairly regularly. However, when I stick to my post massage routine, it tends to speed up the recovery time.Ā

Any questions or concerns? R

If you have any questions or concerns about how you might get more from your massage, let’s chat. I’d be happy to talk about it.

What I’ve noticed over the years when clients come in for massage, is that most of us don’t know how to end the stress cycle in our bodies.

Now, it’s not as simple for some who have sustained long term, reoccurring trauma that has led to severe burnout and allostatic load. The exhaustion is real.

But for many people, using some of these interventions can help stop our body from feeling the effects of the stress that might still linger even if the stressor is physically gone.

Come check out a Rest and Restore Session to see how massage, combined with relaxation techniques, aromatherapy, etc, can help calm your Nervous system. You’ll leave more relaxed and with some tools to work with at home.

HAPPY NOVEMBER!

This time of year seemingly slows down and feels like we are settling in for the winter. The days get shorter, the temperature falls and we find ourselves retreating to our cozy places with warm drinks. It’s definitely a time to go within and reflect on the year, who we are, and to take time to be with-in our Self.Ā

With that being said, come retreat to the massage table. The table warmer is on and, together, we can bring your awareness back to your body and the areas that need your attention. We can do some calming work for your nervous system, or find rest for your overworked mind and body.
