Exhaustion isn’t a character flaw.
It’s what happens when strength goes unsupported.

You don’t get here overnight.

You get here after being the dependable one.
The calm one.

The person who figures things out when everyone else freezes.

You get here after telling yourself, “I can handle it.”
One more time. And one more. And one more.

Until handling it becomes your entire personality.

But here’s the truth most people miss:
Burnout isn’t caused by weakness.
It’s caused by endurance without relief.

By responsibility without rest.
By being capable without being cared for.

This isn’t about trying harder.
It’s about realizing you were never meant to do everything alone.

And if this feels uncomfortably accurate, it’s not because something is wrong with you.

It’s because you’ve been strong for longer than anyone noticed.

If you related to this, comment “SEEN”. No judgement here 🩵

Here’s what I wish someone had told me sooner:

• You are not meant to do this alone. Vet med is a team sport.
• Boundaries aren’t a sign you care less. They’re how you stay in the game longer.
• The work you do is meaningful, even on the days it feels heavy.
• Student debt is real and having a plan gives you options that build toward your future.
• Community, clarity, and support change everything. Find people that become your community.

You don’t need to quit loving vet med to take better care of yourself. You just need tools, people, and permission to lead your life sustainably.

If you wish someone had told you this earlier, share it with a colleague. 🩺🩵

🔥 Hot take: Burnout isn't a badge of honor. It's not proof that you care more. It's not evidence of your dedication. It's your body telling you that something needs to change. And you CAN change it without leaving the profession you love. Drop a 🔥 if you needed to hear this today.

Screenshot this. Save it. Come back to it when you forget.

You don't need anyone's permission to take care of yourself. But sometimes we need the reminder.

Read that again.

We can diagnose a complex case. We can perform a difficult surgery. We can explain treatment options with compassion.

But no one taught us how to:
• Tell a family they can't afford to save their pet
• Carry the weight of euthanasia home with us
• Navigate the guilt of "did I do enough?"
• Set a boundary when we're already drowning

This is why vets leave the profession. Not because they can't handle the medicine—because they weren't given tools for everything else.

If this hits, drop a 💚 below.

Day 2 of having an Al assistant as an ER veterinarian. 👩🏻‍⚕️

My Al assistant, Henley, sent an email for me today! 😃
.. and then a few hours later completely forgot
everything! 🫠

Vet med taught me to move through moments with more care.

To lead with compassion, because you never really know what someone else is carrying into the clinic that day. 📒

It’s reminded me that everyone is navigating something: grief, pressure, doubt, or exhaustion often quietly.

Vet med asks us to care deeply, not just for animals, but for people too.

And sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer is patience, presence, and a little more kindness. 🧘‍♀️

In one word: What has vet med taught you? Comment Below!
