Acupressure Point of the Day! It's a doozie! Todays point is "Liver-14", otherwise known as "Gate of Hope". "That's a weird name. I wonder what it means?"
This point is located in the 6th intercostal space, right below where the ni**le typically should be. The ni**le on men is almost always located at the 4th intercostal space (the soft area in between the ribs), so that's a good landmark to help find this point.
But honestly, if you find a tender, achy spot somewhere in that general vicinity, you've probably found the right spot.
This amazing acupressure point, which you can just poke, prod, rub and massage, is known for its tremendous ability to pull us up from the depths of despair.
It's associated with the liver which is in charge of frustration and the predicament of not being in control. But its also associated with lungs and diaphragm, which is associated with the feeling of being "stuck" in a pattern of grief and loss.
Using acupressure on this point relieves and renews hope for the future. No matter how dark things seem, this point helps reveal the hope of the possibilities for a positive future ahead.
This point holds the spirit of renewal, hope & possibility. Gate of Hope is the last point on the Liver Meridian. If this gate is shut, you will be unable to lift your eyes towards the future with optimism. Resignation falls away when this gate is open! I use it for many reasons including, depression, distention and pain of the middle torso, hiccups, and reflux. But I most often use it on the level of spirit. When we are feeling utterly hopeless, frustrated or stuck in cynicism and negativity, we must open the Gate of Hope. It's the antidote to "I give up...". We can feel a powerful surge of hope with new perspective when we're stuck in a narrow-minded outlook.
And even if your present predicament isn't this bad, consider doing some acupressure on this point... you may just find that it makes everything seem better in life. ๐
