Life these past few weeks 🌊 I am riding the waves of collective grief, rage but also making space for joy, these moments that our ancestors fought for, cried for, prayed for. We are it 🩸🧬🌀 our existence as indigenous, chicanx, mestizos, como quieres llamarlo!!! Es una forma de resistencia. Remember. Colonial settlers tried to keep our ancestors down, burnt down homes, destroyed food sources. Our ancestors fought back and WE are what they have to show for it. I try to live for my ancestros by growing food, through danza, working with culturally significant foods, working with the land in a truly reciprocal way & sharing what I learn with others. I’ve had my mixed feelings about FEELING joy, being able to sit in my garden, harvest and be with people I love. And then I remember. This is exactly what my ancestors would have wanted. This AND for me to speak up/ fight for others. Pero 😮💨 remember to breathe and maybe enjoy the small spurts of happiness that cross our paths as we pray, protest, fight & shed tears.
