Today I said goodbye to my beloved puppy, Dirk. I feel like I've lost a big piece of my heart. Here is my love poem to him. I read it to him while I held him in my arms.

A Love Letter to Dirk

Thank you for being my best friend.
Thank you for making every day happier
Thank you for giving me a reason to get up in the morning.
Thank you for giving me a reason to come home at night.
Thank you for every tail way, sloppy kiss, paw on my foot.
Thank you for giving me a smile on my face
Thank you for being with me in all my moods, and still loving me.
Thank you for being such a loyal friend (except when there was a ball or stick involved…)
Thank you for getting me outdoors everyday.
Thank you for consoling me when I cried
Thank you for providing me a space where I knew everything was going to be okay.
Thank you for sleeping next to me when I felt alone.
Thank you for being my COVID companion. During a time of isolation, you made me feel like I wasn’t alone
Thank you for looking at me with your kind, brown eyes.
Thank you for loving Jakob, Steve, my brother, my mom, James, David, Sophia, Prince, Milo, Lulu, Sasso and all my friends.
Thank you for filling my heart
Thank you for loving me.

I love you more than words can express. I will miss you with all my heart but my life is better for having known you. I wish you peace, joy and comfort. Say hi to my dad in heaven. You are forever loved.
