Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Today is the day we honor the memory of our fallen transgender sisters and brothers who’ve been murdered as the result of transphobia, many of which were Black trans women. Today we honor every transgender man and woman who has been killed in 2019 due to anti-trans violence.

Self-love is one of the most nebulous, and therefore, hardest types of love to practice, but love in general really does start at home with loving ourselves. While we may be our own toughest critics, at the very core, we know our own selves the best. We could all benefit greatly by first learning to nurture the relationship we have with ourselves, because it opens us up to the potential of loving others! ☀️❤️

Thanks for this ! Even as a therapist, I sometimes struggle with putting my own feelings on the back burner instead of taking time to sit with them and experience them fully. It’s important to allow yourself to feel whatever comes up, even if you do so immediately, or at a later time. Never. Feel. Bad. For. Feeling. It makes us human and makes us who we are.

A part of self-care that often gets overlooked is self-love and acceptance. We are constantly bombarded with images and unrealistic expectations of what we “should” look like, to the point where we disregard and even “hate” our own bodies. Something I ask my clients often is “Would you say to or think that about your friend or partner?” and the answer is usually no. I’m guilty of that too: lifting everyone up around me while harshly criticizing and tearing myself down in the process.

Today, just know that if you’re struggling with body-image concerns, just know that you have the right to feel however you want to about your body. But you also have the right to feel at home in your body.
