This seemingly simple parenting stance is much harder for parents to implement, yet I believe it to be crucial in terms of raising resilient kiddos. This article not only offers parents a perspective on how to view their kids’ feelings, but it also points to the importance of parents doing their own therapy if they never received emotional attunement/empathic parenting themselves.

We need to teach children about the importance of connection, heart and compassionate listening and put these things at the center of all our relationships, says author, educator and consultant Lae…

Parents with adolescents (and apparently this includes ages 13-25 year olds!)— this book offers clarity about the importance of cultivating the brain (ie taking care of one’s mental health) through Dan Siegel’s cutting-edge knowledge about neurobiology and his practical tools. I highly recommend it, and it reinforces the importance of why inner work matters!

This is one of my favorite art instillations! I think it beautifully depicts the far too often painful inner world of adult relationships. We ALL have younger parts of “self” that want to be loved, seen, accepted, and valued, yet as adults we can have trouble getting these basic needs met. Therapy in general, but couples and group work in particular, can help adults turn towards each other and tend to these tender, vulnerable parts. The goal isn’t to kill off our inner child, rather it’s to understand him/her and therefore grow stronger emotionally. And we need one another to achieve this.

Today kicks off the annual American Group Psychotherapy Association conference, and our keynote speaker was Dr. Kenneth V. Hardy.

His day-long presentation was entitled “Group Therapy in a Time of Racial Reckoning and Unrest.” Wow- an amazing and brilliant presenter with so much knowleadge and heart. Anyone interested in doing racial justice work, look him up!!

A book for anyone that would like to feel (and be) more adept at protecting themselves and their loved ones from violence.

In addition, it also offers readers the ability to distinguish between worry/anxiety and fear, and in turn, empowers us to unlock the intuitive powers available to us all.

An important read to help us all understand, and thereby tolerate, what we’re collectively feeling.

I’d like to add that grief can feel even MORE overwhelming to those of us who have had past experiences of traumatic grief, particularly when young.

While it’s definitely important to feel our feelings, it’s also helpful to acknowledge that feeling new grief always puts us in touch with older grief. So, some of us particularly need good support systems in place to help each other out, always, and even more so, during these difficult times.

The coronavirus pandemic has led to a collective loss of normalcy.

Uncertainty about coronavirus spreads anxiety through social contagion. Here’s a way to minimize that.

To the parents out there.

It's natural for children to be aware of the stress adults may be feeling about the COVID-19 pandemic. Child psychologists offer some practical advice for parents on how to talk to their kids.
