I am consistently amazed at the journey my clients experience with both IFS and EMDR. While these approaches are quite different, they both tap into a person's natural capacity to heal and adapt. It's an honor to help people transcend talking about their problems so they can have memorable transformative experiences.

It's been a while since I posted! I am taking an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level II training for Shame, Anxiety, and Depression at the end of this month. Clients who are able to engage in IFS really seem to benefit from it. IFS can be as deep as your system will allow you to go. If you want to know more, let me know.

Recently, I have become intrigued in applying Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy in assisting my clients. I have previously worked with parts applying what I learned several years ago in DEEP training. IFS brings more clarity to working with parts. I am going to be taking an Level I IFS training starting in April to help hone my skills.

I recently took a training on integrating IFS and EMDR. As an EMDR Certified therapist, I appreciate the opportunity to apply both of these highly effective methods to help my clients.

This last year or so has sure demanded a lot from us and certainly has been an opportunity to lean into our inherent ability to adapt.

Sometimes it's painful, but it has provided yet another opportunity to notice how much I take for granted as this head of mine focuses on whatever the next worry is on the immediate horizon, often feeling the existential undertone of dread in my gut, as I move through another day and look up only to realize another year has just about passed.

It's the speed with which life passes, accelerating, taking my breath away, breaking my heart, as I relish the memories of my experience here, this brief spark of life, the tears welling up trying to grasp at the esssence that simply can't be captured or contained.

There's a lot to be concerned about, to attend to, to consider, to work toward, to aspire to, to ignore or distract away from, to enjoy, to celebrate, to be sad about, to nurture, to endure, to accept, to push against...an endless array of opposites and parallels, but I'll take it. I'll take all of it. It's why I'm here.

I'm currently involved in DEEP (Dynamic Enriched Experiential Therapy) training, a mode of therapy developed by local therapist Candyce Ossefort-Russell. It's an evidence-based approach based Interpersonal Neurobiology and attachment.

I wanted something to augment my EMDR work with trauma and related symptoms. I've found the training inspiring and it's bringing new dimensions into my work with clients. I plan to write some articles and blog posts related to this approach in the coming weeks.

Is it finally Fall yet? May not stick around, but what incredible weather. Great day to go out for walk. The mental health benefits of simply walking outside for 20-30 minutes a day are backed up by research.

But you can do your own research and try it. Great stress reducer, helps with anxiety and depression, improve your relationship by going for a walk together.

Try to really engage with the moment. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? Notice what your body feels like. Get in touch with the moment.

Walking is good therapy.

One issue I often encounter in couples counseling is how entrenched each partner can be at times in their perspective feeling that they are so "right" about it. Sometimes, each person self describes as "stubborn" or each person thinks the other is being "unreasonable."

I often suggest this is related to "stonewalling" because a wall has been built between the couple. So much of the initial work is to help each person soften a little by at least attempting to see the other person's perspective.

Softening and flexibitility goes a long way in renewing connection. Listening, validating, empathizing are so critical to having a better relationship.

Let me know what you think.
