Effects of Massage on the Skeletal System
1. Posture and Alignment
β’ Massage relaxes tight muscles that pull bones and joints out of alignment.
β’ Helps reduce postural imbalances (e.g., rounded shoulders, pelvic tilt).
2. Joint Health
β’ By improving circulation to the tissues around joints, massage helps nourish cartilage and synovial fluid.
β’ Reduces stiffness and increases range of motion.
3. Support for Bone Health
β’ Massage stimulates blood flow, which indirectly supports bone repair and remodeling by bringing nutrients to the periosteum (outer bone layer).
β’ Especially useful after immobilization (like after a cast comes off, once cleared by a doctor).
4. Pain Relief in Skeletal Conditions
β’ Helpful in managing pain from arthritis, osteoporosis (with caution and gentle techniques), scoliosis, and other structural conditions.
β’ Reduces muscle guarding around painful joints or spine areas.
