Our thoughts and prayers are with this community who was targeted by an active shooter last night and has lost 22 victims. We pray law enforcement officers searching to locate this person of interest are safe and successful in their search.

At least 22 people are dead and 30 more are wounded following a mass shooting event at two locations in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday night.

Last week we were blessed to have the opportunity to provide the AVERT "Active Violence Emergency Response Training" for FREE to the teachers and staff at the Sacred Heart Catholic School. We pray they will never have to use the skills they learned but we know they are prepared to respond to an active shooter event and control life-threatening bleeding if they have to. And we'd like to give a big shout-out to Patscheck Law for sponsoring the breakfast burritos!

Last week, we had the honor of training employees at Sunray Park and Casino in the AVERT active shooter response training. We want to give a big shout out to their leadership for recognizing the need to prepare their employees in how to respond to a life-threatening bleeding emergency and how to evade, escape, distract, disarm and attack if necessary. According to a publication issued by the US Department of Health & Human Services https://www.samhsa.gov/ , survivors or witnesses of active shooter incidents may suffer from PTSD and go through multiple phases in which they experience particular emotions, behaviors, and other reactions. We hope and pray that no one ever has to experience this type of violence, but we are proud to play a small part in the recovery of one survivor in our own community.
On May 15, 2023 when an active shooter attempted to kill as many people as possible on a residential street in Farmington, NM, the female driver of a van on the street at the time witnessed the horror as her tire was struck by gunfire. She was able to retreat and notify a motorcyclist of the danger ahead. She escaped the danger and survived!
Over the last 2 days, she participated in the AVERT course to learn how to control life-threatening bleeding and how to escape, evade, defend and attack as a last resort. Today, we honor her for the courage she exhibited not only during the horrific event but also in the aftermath as she continues to heal and confront the behavioral and mental health reactions to the mass violence she experienced! We’d also like to give a big shout out to Sunray Park and Casino for allowing her to take the class as a guest student and share her story with all of us!

Thank you Four Corners Community Bank for helping us achieve our mission to bring active shooter response and life saving emergency care skills to our community! Employees at every Four Corners Community Bank Branch have now completed the AVERT training AND VTac’s reality based active shooter response drills where they go to work everyday.

There are a lot of knock off tourniquets popping up all over. While it may seem like a logical way to save a few bucks, there are significant dangers when you use life-saving medical equipment that hasn’t gone through the rigors of a legitimate manufacturing and quality management process. Last week our community was shocked by the senseless acts of violence that occurred on Monday, May 15, 2023. This week, our government and public safety officials are working hard to help our community most effectively recover from an active shooter incident while providing the best support structure for their employees, contractors, visitors, patrons, family members, and the community at large.

Unfortunately, we do not have an answer on how to stop this madness so we must focus on what we can do to prepare to respond if and when it happens yet again.

VTac would like to give a big shout out to Four Corners Community Bank for preparing their employees to respond to an active shooter event. Over the course of 2 days, 56 of their employees were trained in the AVERT class where they learned how to escape, evade, defend and attack as well as recognize and control life threatening bleeding. Thank you for helping us prepare our community!
