Until the early 20th century, arsenic was usually used as an embalming fluid, until it was discovered that less toxic chemicals could be used. These days, the body is thoroughly washed using disinfectant and germicidal solutions, then a 4-step embalming process is carefully executed using a specialized solution called Formalin. While it is encouraged to have a loved one cremated with a cherished belonging, several items will interfere with the process. Some clothes include hazardous materials, some medical devices are created using durable metal or radioactive material. Also, gold teeth, pins, and other non combustible items may not be cremated with the body.
