Human beings are vessels of perpetual change
limited by time and flesh
yet inhabiting life, accidental as it is
with fearless self possession, able to question
and able to believe in the wild necessity of being.

Our culture sees the world through a dualistic lens, so when we hear the word ‘pure’, it’s natural to immediately move into judgement about what’s impure. Even more problematic is how swiftly we shift this focus to things outside of ourselves.

Saucha prompts us to ask, “What am I holding onto that is creating suffering?” Through this practice, we are invited to become aware of our relationship to each moment—to know the difference between being pure with something and trying to make something pure. This approach to purity invites us to release our ideals and expectations, and even drop our image of purity in order to fully experience this gem.

🪷 Explore this yogic teaching with us this month as we dive deeper into this Niyama, which is part of yoga’s eight-limbed path. We have been using Deborah Adele’s book The Yamas and Niyamas, which you can buy from our studio store. It has been an amazing guidebook to study these timeless teachings!

Feeding Your Demons® is an accessible approach for dealing with challenging emotions, obstacles, fears, self-defeating patterns or pain—anything that seems to be demanding your attention. This accessible and effective method has helped thousands of people transform negative emotions, anxiety, depression, anger and habitual behaviors.

Lama Tsultrim Allione (American author and teacher who has studied in Tibetan Buddhism’s Karma Kagyu lineage) developed Feeding Your Demons® (FYD) as a five-step process that guides the practitioner to identify and transform their shadow parts into protective allies through a sequence of illuminating questions and creative visualizations. FYD is an adaptation of the ancient Tibetan Chöd ritual practice developed by the Tibetan Buddhist nun Machig Labdrön (1055–1149). FYD deftly synthesizes Chöd, parts-work, somatic therapy, Gestalt therapy and Jungian depth psychology.

The work transcends spiritual constructs, serving as a meaningful tool for anybody, regardless of religious affiliation or personal philosophy.

Each class is its own: Attend one, some sessions or all.
