An intense atmospheric river event is forecasted to impact our service areas starting late tomorrow, Tuesday, December 23, through Friday, December 26, 2025. We are expecting a combination of heavy rainfall, significant mountain snow, and damaging winds across Kern, Inyo, and Mono counties. As a preparedness step, beginning today, has been activated at an Enhanced Watch status. This activation includes daily state-level coordination calls and strict reporting requirements through this Friday, December 26.
Kern County: Flood Watch / High Wind Watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Friday. Expect gusts up to 60 mph in the Tehachapi and Coastal ranges (including the Grapevine) potential flooding in low-lying urban areas and creeks.
Inyo County: Winter Storm Watch in effect for the Eastern Sierra and White Mountains. Heavy snow and a deep Pacific trough will bring hazardous conditions to the valley and mountains through Christmas Day.
Mono County: Winter Storm Warning Active from Tuesday night through Friday morning. Snow accumulations of 4 to 5 feet are expected at high elevations
1 to 3 feet along the US-395 corridor. Travel is expected to be impossible at times.
Emergency Supplies: Confirm individuals have at least 72 hours of water, non-perishable food, and necessary medications.
Power Backup: For those utilizing ventilators, oxygen concentrators, or other power-dependent medical equipment, ensure backup batteries are charged or that a plan is in place for a potential power outage.
Communication: Verify that individuals have a way to receive alerts and a charged mobile device or radio.
Travel Safety: Strongly advise individuals and families to avoid travel during the peak of the storm (Tuesday night through Thursday).
