Heart disease often develops quietly. Many people do not notice symptoms until a serious event occurs, which is why routine screenings and early evaluation are so important.

Getting checked for heart issues does not have to be complicated. It starts with simple steps and a conversation with your provider.

You should consider a heart evaluation if you experience:
Chest discomfort or pressure
Shortness of breath
Unexplained fatigue
Palpitations or irregular heartbeat
Swelling in the legs or feet
A family history of heart disease

Even without symptoms, regular heart screenings can help identify risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes before they lead to bigger problems.

A typical cardiac evaluation may include:
A physical exam and medical history
Blood pressure and cholesterol checks
Electrocardiogram or other heart monitoring
Imaging or stress testing when needed

Taking action early allows for prevention, lifestyle changes, and treatment options that protect your long term health.

If you have concerns about your heart or have not had a recent evaluation, now is a good time to start the conversation.

California Cardiovascular Institute and Heart of the City are proud to come together for a powerful community moment at KGET Compassion Corner with a Hands Only CPR event focused on saving lives through awareness and action.

Heart health emergencies can happen anywhere and to anyone. Knowing how to respond in those first few minutes can make all the difference. That is why this event is centered on teaching simple Hands Only CPR skills that empower everyday people to step in with confidence.

Throughout the event, members of the California Cardiovascular Institute team alongside the inspiring youth from Heart of the City connected with the community, demonstrated CPR techniques, and encouraged everyone to take a few minutes to learn a skill that could one day save a life. It was a reminder that heart health is not just clinical. It is communal.

Today, Dr. Puga at California Cardiovascular Institute performed a Lower Extremity Angiography to evaluate blood flow in the arteries of the leg.

When peripheral artery disease narrows or blocks circulation, patients can experience pain, cramping, slow healing wounds, or even risk of limb complications. Early diagnosis and intervention are critical.

During this procedure, Dr. Puga not only visualized the blockage but treated it using:
• Atherectomy – a minimally invasive technique to remove plaque buildup from the artery
• Angioplasty – using a specialized balloon to restore proper blood flow
These advanced techniques help improve circulation, reduce symptoms, and support limb preservation — all without open surgery.

At CCI, our focus is simple:
Restore blood flow. Relieve pain. Protect quality of life.
