This mama labored for five long days — in deep pain, sent home from the hospital twice for “not being in active labor.”
When will the system truly listen to women?
When will our Latina mothers be heard?
When will real concerns be believed instead of dismissed?
At just 1 cm, she felt her baby so low, deep in her body. I spent a few hours with her doing Miles Circuits, offering warmth and comfort. The heating pad brought only temporary relief. By 11 AM on 1/15, the intensity was undeniable. A warm bath couldn’t ease it anymore.
She made the informed decision to return to the hospital. And just as she arrived — her waters broke.
Still, she waited in triage for three hours while in labor.
After shift change, she chose an epidural — and everything softened.
Her body opened.
5 cm. Then 7 cm, with a second bulge of waters.
Within two hours, she was 9.5 cm.
Moments later, that same beautiful bag appeared, and we could see sweet baby boy’s hair.
The doctor came in to check station and break her waters — but her baby was already gliding into the world.
She pushed about 15 times, and her son arrived.
And in that moment, she was birthed too.
The sacredness of birth always brings me back to gratitude — witnessing that first look between parents, their eyes meeting over the miracle they created together.
Thank you to this family for trusting me in one of the most sacred moments of their lives. 🤍
