As we wrap up 2025, we’re doing a happy little gratitude dance in the dirt 💃🌱
Seriously — our hearts are FULL.

Thank you for all the love, support, laughs, muddy boots, deep breaths, and good vibes you brought to Okihi this year. From field trips full of curious kids, to sound baths that made us all melt into the earth, to events, gatherings, and moments that were just plain FUN — wow, what a year.

You showed up. You cheered us on. You helped this land continue to heal and thrive. And you made the work joyful (and occasionally ridiculous, in the best way).

We’re so grateful for this community of nature-loving, magic-making humans. Thank you for being part of the Okihi story — we truly couldn’t do this without you.

Wishing you cozy holidays, full cups, and a little extra silliness ✨
See you in 2026 — we’ve got more fun planned.

With muddy boots & full hearts,
💚 Okihi

Winter Solstice feels like the perfect moment for us, Stephen and Katherine Winters, to extend our deepest gratitude to the community that continues to show up for and believe in the Okihi project.

What began as an abandoned, burned-up piece of land is slowly transforming into a riverside oasis—one rooted in outdoor education, restoration, and meaningful community connection. None of this would be possible without your support, encouragement, and belief in what we’re building together.

Thank you for walking alongside us on this journey. Please keep following along—we have so much in store for 2026, and we can’t wait to share what’s next. 🌿✨

🌿 From Ashes to Oasis: The Okihi Journey 🌿

Today, we’re sharing a piece of the Okihi story that’s close to our hearts. In the video, you’ll see where we started: a burnt, barren landscape with no water, no power, and a whole lot of challenges. But you’ll also see how our community has transformed it into a thriving space for outdoor education and nature connection for local youth.

We’re a nonprofit, grassroots team, and we need your help to keep this mission growing. Whether it’s by leaving a comment, sharing this story, or making a donation, every bit of support helps us nurture the next generation . 🌱💚

The second half of the day at Okihi.

Emails, newsletters, budgets, web site maintenance or grant drafts.
Then back outside—animal chores, turning on lights, fixing fences, prepping the guest trailers.
Making sure everything is ready for the people who will arrive here to rest, reconnect, and breathe a little deeper.

This work is slow.
It’s unseen.
And it’s what keeps this land open, cared for, and alive.

Okihi isn’t built in a single moment—it’s built in these in-between hours.

Most people think “a day at work” looks like emails and meetings.

Mine looks like this.

Morning animal chores.
Boots on the ground with interns and volunteers building trails.
Hands in the soil planting natives that will outlive us.
Mulch under fingernails.
Then rest—lying in the pasture while sheep graze and the land breathes.

This is what restoring a place looks like.
Slow. Physical. Communal. Sacred.

This is Okihi. 🌱

🐑🌿 Sustainable Grazing at Okihi 🌿🐑

Our sheep are more than just part of the landscape at Okihi—they are active partners in restoration. Through rotational, sustainable grazing, they help manage invasive grasses, naturally fertilize the soil, and encourage healthy regrowth of native plants. This gentle, intentional relationship with the land allows the soil to rebuild, water to absorb more deeply, and ecosystems to thrive without chemicals or heavy machinery.

At Okihi, grazing is done mindfully—moving the sheep slowly across the land, giving pastures time to rest and recover. This mirrors natural grazing cycles and supports long-term land health rather than short-term gain. It’s slower, more observant, and deeply respectful of the rhythms of nature.

This practice is part of our larger mission: to create a sustainable, mindful nature retreat where humans, animals, and the land coexist in balance. A place where children can learn where food comes from, where families can reconnect with the natural world, and where future generations can experience a living example of stewardship done with care.

Okihi isn’t just being preserved—it’s being actively healed, one thoughtful choice at a time. And our sheep are helping lead the way. 💚
