Jesus Christ, 33, of Nazareth, died Friday on Mount Calvary, also known as Golgotha, the place of the skull. Betrayed by the apostle, Judus, Jesus was crucified by the Romans, by order of the Ruler Pontius Pilate.

The causes of death were crucifixion, extreme exhaustion, severe torture, loss of blood and a broken heart.

Jesus Christ, a descendent of Abraham, was a member of the house of David. He was the adopted Son of the late Joseph, a carpenter of Nazareth, and Mary, His devoted natural Mother. Jesus was born in a stable in the city of Bethlehaem, Judea. He is survived by His mother, Mary, His faithful Apostles, numerous disciples and many other followers.

Jesus was self-educated and spent most of his adult life working as a Teacher. Jesus also occasionally worked as a Medical Doctor and it is reported that he healed many patients. Up until the time of His death, Jesus was teaching and sharing the Good News, healing the sick, touching the lonely, feeding the hungry and helping the poor.

Jesus was most noted for telling parables about His Father’s Kingdom and performing miracles, such as feeding over 5,000 people with only five loaves of bread and two fish, and healing a man who was once blind. On the day before his Death, He held a Last Supper celebrating the Passover Feast, at which He foretold His death.

The body was quickly buried in a stone grave, which was donated by Joseph of Arimathea, a loyal friend of the family. By order of Pontius Pilate, a boulder was rolled in front of the tomb. Roman soldiers were put on guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that everyone try to live as Jesus did. Donations may be sent to anyone in need.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Correction- Since the time of the publishing of this obituary, we have had it confirmed by many persons that Jesus has risen from the dead! He is alive and well. He has asked that we continue to help others and to share with them the Good News that Jesus Saves From Sin!

Our Story

Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory has been a part of Habersham County since 1971. Formerly known as Whitfield-Perkins Funeral Home, the funeral home was located on South Main Street in Baldwin. After Swenson Perkins death, Larry & Evie Whitfield built a new facility and moved to their present location on Industrial Boulevard in Baldwin.

In June of 1999, Larry and Evie Whitfield, along with David C. Wall purchased the former Habersham Memorial Chapel renamed it the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in order to better serve the entire county.

Larry and Evie Whitfield and their staff have developed a proud funeral service tradition built on dignity, respect, and compassion in their 48 years of service to this county and surrounding areas. Service is their first priority and they have a commitment to give the most caring, professional service possible. Quality service and cost are both important to the families of this area. Funeral service options and the costs associated with them are carefully explained and every funeral service chosen at Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory has dignity and personalized service no matter the cost. They firmly believe that each and every funeral should be a unique tribute to the life that was lived. That is why they now offer the most complete line of memorial merchandise in this area.

At Whitfield Funeral Homes, several options are available to those who wish to pre-plan and pre-pay funeral services. The funeral home also offers a complete line of marble, granite, and bronze memorials. Larry has been a Georgia Licenced Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1967. Evie was her husband's business partner from 1985 to 2005 when she retired to spend more time with their grandchildren. Evie still assists at the funeral home on a part-time basis. Larry and Evie’s son, John, has been employed by the funeral home since 1994. John has been a Georgia Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1996. In September 2002, Yonah Memorial Gardens, Habersham County's oldest Perpetual Care Cemetery, adjacent to the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, in Demorest was purchased to help provide full service to the area.
