Your body moves in patterns — not muscles in isolation.

Here are the 4 patterns we always come back to during the rehab process:

🔁 Push & Pull

These are the foundation of upper body function. A push (think pressing overhead or forward) and a pull (rowing, reaching back) work as a pair — when one is tight or weak, the other compensates. Restoring balance between the two protects your shoulders, neck, and spine.

🔽 Hinge & Squat

Your lower body operates in two primary ways: loading the hips back (hinge) and loading through the legs symmetrically (squat). Whether you’re picking something up off the floor or getting out of a chair, these patterns are in everything. Rehab them early, and you rebuild confidence in everyday movement.

Why this matters in rehab:

Pain often isn’t about the muscle you hurt — it’s about the pattern that broke down around it. Restoring movement quality before chasing strength is what prevents re-injury and builds lasting resilience.

🦵 Unpopular opinion: Resting your knee pain away isn’t the move.

Sitting on the couch waiting for your knees to feel better? That strategy might actually be making things worse.

Here’s the truth — your knees need movement to heal. Cartilage gets its nutrients from the fluid that flows through it when you move. No movement = no nourishment.

What actually helps:

✅ Strengthening the muscles around the knee (quads, hamstrings, glutes)
✅ Low-impact movement like walking, cycling, or swimming
✅ Gradual, progressive loading to rebuild tolerance
✅ Addressing why the pain started — mobility, mechanics, weakness

Rest has its place after an acute injury, but chronic knee pain doesn’t get better by avoiding it. It gets better by building back smart.

Your knees aren’t broken. They’re just asking for the right kind of attention. 💪
