If the vertical scar of a Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck makes you pause, this is worth understanding.
A Fleur-de-Lis tummy tuck is recommended when a patient has lost, typically, over 100 pounds and has significant excess skin above the belly button and through the midline. In these cases, a traditional tummy tuck cannot adequately address that skin.
When we try to force a standard tummy tuck in this situation, the result is often folded, creased skin above the belly button that looks unnatural and unfinished. That is not a trade-off we accept.
The Fleur-de-Lis approach removes skin both vertically and horizontally. Yes, that means a vertical scar. But it also means the loose, collapsing skin is actually removed, not just rearranged. Over time, scars fade, especially with proper care, and all of our surgeries include scar treatments to help that process along.
What remains long-term is not excess skin or distortion. It’s a flat, natural-appearing abdomen that reflects the work you already put in to lose the weight.
The scar fades. The contour stays.
If you’ve had massive weight loss, this isn’t an extreme option. It’s the correct one.
