✨ Social skills don’t just “happen” they can be taught, practiced, and strengthened. ✨

For many children with autism, building meaningful peer connections takes intentional support. That’s where ABA therapy can help.

In our Social STEPS programs, we focus on:
🧩 breaking complex interactions into manageable steps
🤝 practicing skills in real-world settings
⭐ using meaningful reinforcement to support lasting growth

Social development is more than learning scripts, it’s about confidence, connection, and belonging.

Representation matters, and this is a big STEP forward.

has introduced the first-ever Autistic Barbie, developed with guidance from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) to authentically reflect how some autistic individuals experience and interact with the world through thoughtful design choices and accessories.

This Barbie includes meaningful details like:
🧩 Articulated wrists and elbows to mirror common self-soothing movements
👀 A slightly averted eye gaze
👕 Sensory-sensitive clothing
🎧 Accessories like noise-cancelling headphones, a fidget spinner, and a tablet displaying AAC apps (Augmentative & Alternative Communication)

At STEPS Behavioral Health, we’re inspired by this step forward in representation. Inclusive design, whether in toys, therapy, or everyday environments, helps normalize diverse communication styles and sensory needs, promoting a more inclusive and accepting environment. When children see real experiences reflected, it supports understanding, builds confidence, and reminds everyone that there’s no one “right” way to communicate or engage with the world.

What does meaningful representation look like to you and your family?
