At Baltimore Sports Clinic, we’ve been hearing the same thing from so many people lately. With the ice hanging around and sidewalks still slick, we’ve seen an increase in slips and falls.

On top of that, all that heavy snow and ice shoveling has left a lot of backs, shoulders, and hips pretty unhappy. Cold muscles plus sudden heavy lifting is a tough combo.

If you tweaked something, took a fall, or your back has not felt right since the storm, do not ignore it. Getting checked out early can prevent a small issue from turning into a long term problem. Stay safe out there and take it slow on the ice.

Healthy Recipe of The Month: Lemon Parmesan Sesame Salad from Half Baked Harvest

Ingredients
Salad
2 cups torn ciabatta bread
1 clove garlic, grated
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
6 cups mixed salad greens
1 cup mixed fresh herbs (basil, dill, thyme)
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
3 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
1–2 avocados, cubed or sliced

Lemon Sesame Vinaigrette
1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
3 tbsp toasted sesame oil
3 tbsp lemon juice
3 tbsp champagne vinegar
2 tsp Dijon mustard
2 tsp honey
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt, pepper, and chili flakes to taste

Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F. Toss ciabatta with garlic, olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Bake 10–12 minutes until toasted.
In a large bowl, combine greens, croutons, parmesan, and sesame seeds.
Shake all vinaigrette ingredients in a jar. Taste and adjust as needed.
Toss salad with vinaigrette and top with avocado. Enjoy!


For added protein, top with seafood, chicken, or tofu.

Lemon Parmesan Sesame Salad: This is best served with steak dinners, plates of pasta, BBQs, and anything else that needs a good green salad!

Exercise of the Month: Glute Rear-Foot-Supported RDL on Wall

One of the most common issues we see in the clinic is low back pain. This exercise helps offload the lower back while reinforcing a proper hip-hinge pattern.

Benefits include:
Reducing strain on the low back
Improving hip hinge mechanics
Activating glutes and hamstrings
Relieving feelings of tightness in the hips and hamstrings
Try 8–10 reps per side and notice how it improves movement and creates more freedom in your body.

🌴 Heads up: Dr. Cesari is out of the office Jan 19–23 🌴

Don't feel too bad for him… because while the East Coast is dealing with winter weather, he’ll be soaking up beautiful Palm Springs sunshine. In January the desert town often has daytime temps in the 60s to low 70s, with plenty of mild, pleasant weather compared to our cold Maryland weather.

We’ll miss him here, but we hope he sends back some warm vibes for the rest of us!
