What The Sprout

What The Sprout For The Love of Microgreens. We're sowing, growing, and enjoying microgreens for mental, physical, and community health!

I'm Quandra Gray
After years in visual design, I was drawn to a new type of design—one rooted in health and sustainability. With no backyard for gardening, I discovered microgreens and transformed my home into a thriving vertical garden. Now, I use my journey to help others grow their own food. I’ll teach you how to cultivate microgreens and make a positive impact on your community—all from the comfort of your home.

Spent March 6–7 at the SEEDS & CULTURE: Rural and Urban Agriculture United conference at UDC, hosted by the Ujamaa Cooperative Farming Alliance in partnership with 2020 Farmers Co-op. https://lnkd.in/eGt4xCKd

I presented Microgreens as Medicine: A Practical Urban Growing Workshop for Community Health & Resilience to a full room of engaged learners. I’m always glad to be in spaces where people are serious about growing food, sharing knowledge, and building healthier communities.

I left with new seeds, new connections, and fresh energy for the work ahead.

Great meeting so many good people doing this work.

Beautiful. 🍄 Just like that — mushrooms from spawn.
A small bag, a little patience, and suddenly food starts pushing through.
We’re adding this to What The Sprout’s - Cultivation Training Workshops so people can learn how to grow mushrooms like this and take the skill back into their own kitchens and communities.

Want to learn with us? Subscribe to the Eventbrite page to get updates when new workshops are announced.

Oyster mushrooms are about to fruit. 🍄 Mycelium network fully established. — now it’s almost showtime.

In a few days, they’ll be ready to harvest. Savory, tender, and a solid meatless option — especially paired with the greens growing right here on the shelf.

Protein and produce. Grown side by side.

Want to learn how to grow them — and do a little eating with me?

We’re adding a few new events to the calendar soon. Follow my Eventbrite page for announcements and upcoming workshops.

The world is topsy-turvy. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and powerless…until…I step in the room and get lost in the care of living things that grow with my help, patience and attention. Worries melt away. Frustration crumbles. Anxiety losses it flare. I put all those crippling feelings in the soil. If you want some of this peace, I invite you to come and hang out with me. Sow seeds and clear your mind 🫰🏽 Should I plan a sow circle for next week?

Whoop whoop! I’ve been accepted into the Center for Community Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health - CEEJH fellowship.

Right on time.

We’re launching a community pilot that treats food cultivation as environmental health infrastructure — measurable action tied to food access, heat resilience, stress reduction, and local economic opportunity.

CEEJH will help strengthen the framework, grounding this work in environmental justice, community science, and rigorous evaluation.

We’re starting at the Langston Hughes Community, Business & Resource Center in Park Heights. The model is designed to scale.

If you want to be part of the pilot — to grow, support, partner, document, or learn — the interest form is in the link: https://forms.gle/X3hHHUAFTxVfXTvu9

Live Q&A: Get Over the Fear of Gardening

https://www.skool.com/live/8PzDMWGmYLJ

If you’ve been thinking about growing your own food but keep hesitating… this is for you.

Let’s talk through what’s actually stopping you — fear of failing, not knowing enough, killing plants (we’ve all done it), or just not knowing where to start.

Bring your real questions.
Leave with a simple next step.

You don’t need a backyard. You don’t need experience.
You just need to begin. 🌱

People make the world go ‘round. And agriculture sustains us all. Good, warm company helped packed freshly harvested Microgreens at What The Sprout’s Grow Well Vertical Farm. The greens were distributed to final food pantry for 2025. 👏🏾 More to come on the day later 😉.
