April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.

Between 40% and 45% of women in abusive relationships will also be sexually assaulted during the course of the relationship.

Intimate partner sexual assault and r**e are used to intimidate, control and demean victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Between 14% and 25% of women are sexually assaulted by intimate partners during their relationship.

We want to take the time to honor the lives of the 14+ Black women who were killed from domestic violence in March and April. We say their names. Dr. Cerina Wanzer Fairfax. Barbara Deer. Pastor Tammy McCollum. Ashanti Allen. Trenelle Collins. Mary Major. Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer. Erica Saunders. Daniest Graves. Davonta Curtis. Precious Elicia J’anae Johnson. Nurse Tomeka Kamwani. Ashly Robinson. Tynice Friday. Qualeshia Barnes.

Becoming a mother made me more aware of how deeply women need support.

There were moments in motherhood where I looked strong on the outside but needed support on the inside.

Black Maternal Health is personal for me. There are too many times where Black mothers are not getting appropriate health treatment, support, care, and love.

Mamas, I see you, I hear you, I support you, I am you!
Your experience in motherhood is valuable and important. If you are seeking community or support reach out to me by sending a DM. It is my pleasure to connect and be a resource for you.

One thing I keep coming back to during Black Maternal Health Week is this:

So many Black mothers are carrying so much while still being expected to “keep going.” 🤦🏽‍♀️

And while resilience is real, so is the need for:
• softness
• support
• rest
• being cared for too

As a Black woman/mother/therapist, I know how easy it can be to keep pouring while running low. Giving so much of yourself that there is nothing left for you. Have you been there? Are you there?

This week, I want to remind every mother:
You are allowed to need help. 🥰
You are allowed to be held too.🤗

If this resonates, comment “supported” below. Allow this to be recognition of seeking support and permission to receive it. Your strength does not need to equal to suffering or shame.

Let’s remind moms they don’t have to carry it all alone. Me🙋🏽‍♀️ I am that Mom that needs the reminder.
