I am
running to give hope to those
who have felt hopeless. While running my first
marathon, March 20th, 2011,
I realized the true power of
prayer; as Focused prayer,
determination and the need
to win , at my life, propelled
me across that finish
line. While running, I prayed
not only for inner strength,
focus and will power, I found
myself praying for people that I've encountered along my journey;

those who've influenced me, taught me life altering lessons, loved me and even hurt me. When I run, My mind syncs with the Universe and my environment. Challenges become oppurtunties. Anger or disapointment turn into compassion. Wounds are healed when I RUN and PRAY!

I grew up being told NOT to run in the rain for fear of catching pneumonia. Lol

Day 37 of wedding training looked a little different tonight.

I set out to create an opportunity to run this evening. It was an intentional stretch from board game night to the station. just me, the Jersey City streets, and the rain.

There is something incredibly grounding about deciding to move and then following through. It wasn’t about the weather or the convenience; it was about the commitment. It was a freeing and magical Solo Night Run.

For those of us over 40, we often wait for the “right” conditions to prioritize ourselves. We wait for the sun to come out or the schedule to clear. We wait for a ‘Special Occassion’ to where the outfit. You are the ‘Special Occassion.’

The magic happens when you decide that movement is simply the norm.

Whether you are training for a big day or just training for a better life, don’t wait for an invitation. Take the lead.

Day 37 Training 4 Our WEDDING

My partner and friend of 21+ years, Sekou Writes, suffered a Major Stroke.

Black Americans have a significantly higher risk for intracranial hemorrhage-bleeding in the brain Strokes at younger ages compared to white populations.

Sekou was ONLY 51 years of age.

He’s been running everyday post that stroke for almost 4 years

In honor and solidarity of that day-we will exchange vows.

WeCare naming it ‘The409vowrun

On his 409th consecutive day of running-Sekou suffered a hemorrhagic Stroke.

We will celebrate our next chapter together

We will honor Stroke Survivors

We will raise Money and the Awareness of preventing and managing a Stroke

When was the last time you did something that made you feel dangerous, capable, and completely alive?”

I envied the freedom to run whenever they wanted—in the pre-dawn dark or the dark city night. As a woman, that freedom often feels like a luxury we can’t afford.

Tonight, I decided to stop watching from the sidelines.
Fresh off finishing my Chelsea social city host/guide series, I faced the fear. I thought I had 2.5 from the restaurant home. I was wrong. It was3.5. It IS Hot! Humid and Amazing! Through the heat, the humidity, and (yes) even the jean shorts, I ran in-I did it. Nice and slow and easy. Yes! My lungs burned a little bit.

The science is clear: Dr. Fries, MD, notes that regular running can delay age-related disability by 16 years and drastically reduce risks of heart disease and cancer. It doesn’t destroy your knees. That’s a MYTH. it builds a longer, more active life.

But the biology is only half of it.
To my sisters in midlife and menopause: Are you truly living, or just coasting? Are you waiting for “safety” or “the right time” while life passes you by?
Be curious about your own strength. I’m 3.5 miles braver than I was yesterday.

Day 27 straining 4 our Wedding. We’ve barely scratched the surface to the training we’re embarking on to get us from where we are to where we’re headed; but we’re going for it.

Sometimes “doing it anyway” isn’t about the calories; it’s about the integrity of keeping a promise to yourself.

Training for a Marriage…Partnership is practice for the life shift you’re on. showing up for your partner even when you’re at 40% capacity.

If you’re feeling low today, this is your sign to lace up. Do it tired. Do it slow. Just do it.” You got this.

Day 22 Training 4 Wedding

WHY do athletes elevate their legs above their heart after a long run or strenuous training session?

Because they’re dramatic? Maybe!

It’s because they might be..
Feeling light-headed Experiencing Edema or swollen ankles Nervous System “Reset”
( shifts your body from the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) to the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest).
Psychological Relief

After logging in 9.5 miles (run-jog-walk) and breaking in brand new running shoes ( HOKAS)- my feet were SCREAMING! SCREAMING! Abd now.. much better!

What are you Doing Now that you’re Over40 that makes you feel Scared? Self- Conscious? UNCOMFORTABLE; yet you’re doing it anyway?

Growth- Improvement and Expansion can only occur in those Uncomfortable spaces

Running in 22 degree feeling temps still make me feel uncomfortable. However-remaining where we are makes both Sekou and myself MORE Uncomfortable.

Today is Day 16 Training days till our wedding

When did you think you had More life in you worth living?

My friend of 21+ years proposed in 2023 after suffering to strokes.

We didn’t ficus on planning a wedding because we were busy planning to live and live a new kind of post-stroke life together.

Our training isn’t for a single day at the altar; it’s for the long-distance journey of standing stronger for as long as we’re needed here and together.

We’re running to shine a light on stroke prevention and the beauty of the ‘after.’ We want to show our peers and those who come after us. that aging isn’t an exit; it’s an entrance.

We’re reclaiming our health and our history, one 4.09-second pause at a time. A stroke might change the pace, but it doesn’t stop the race.”
