“We are often like the old woman in a Sufi parable, on her hands and knees under a lamppost looking for her lost house key. When asked by her neighbors where she thought she had dropped her key, she replied, ‘oh in my house, of course’.
‘Why then are you looking for it outside?’
‘Because it’s a lot brighter here under the lamppost’, the old woman said. ‘It’s too dark in my house to find anything.’
‘That doesn’t make any sense!’ her neighbors said. ‘If you lost your key in the house, the only place you’ll find it is in the house.’
To their amazement, the old woman laughed. ‘You are so clever when it comes to the little things in the world’, she said , ‘but all of you have been doing the same thing with your inner life. You are always looking outside of yourself for what you forgot inside’. “ from You Are the Answer by Michael J Tamura
