NCADD member affiliates are already feeling the impact of the abrupt termination of SAMHSA grants—putting prevention, recovery supports, and community-based mental health services at risk in local communities.
One example is PreventEd (St. Louis, MO), which reports four terminated contracts totaling over $1.7 million—funding that was planned for 2026 staffing and programming. The loss will impact universal classroom prevention presentations, community-based prevention support, Mental Health First Aid trainings in schools, peer support services, and naloxone education across the St. Louis region.
We’re also hearing from other affiliates across the country, including Addiction Prevention Coalition (Homewood, AL), which reports three terminated grants totaling $290,000—about one quarter of its budget—reducing universal prevention services and eliminating mental health training efforts for youth and adults.
