Dr. King reminded us that justice is not passive. It requires care, courage, and collective action. Today, as communities continue to face health inequities and barriers to opportunity, his call to serve and uplift one another remains deeply relevant.

This year, we had the privilege of working alongside neighbors, partners, and advocates who continue to show us what it means to build a healthier, more hopeful Baltimore.

Before we close out 2025, here’s a check-in on our 2026 Bunting Fellows and what they’ve been up to this fall. 💛💙

Since September, Fellows have been out in exploring neighborhoods through fieldwork, learning about Livable Cities and Livable Habitats, and beginning their focus on Healthy People.

Their most recent session on December 5 featured an inspiring workshop led by Dr. Tahira Mahdi, an author, psychologist, and self-described “author of mischief”, titled Embracing the Complexities and Contradictions of Community. The day also included a special conversation with UHI Director Dr. Lisa Cooper and Associate Director Dr. Lindsay Thompson, plus some holiday fun with games. 💛✨

We’re grateful for the energy and curiosity this cohort continues to bring, and excited to share more as the program continues into 2026. 🙌

Youth will engage in conversations on leadership, mental health, advocacy, and community change, while exploring resources to support their growth. 🙌
