Brenda is a live-in caregiver responsible for the transportation, bathing, nutrition, and daily care needs of a loved one. Above all else, she indicates a lack of training is what she struggles with most, admitting she feels “very anxious about making mistakes” when it comes to managing health care for someone with complicated medical needs. During National Family Caregivers Month, we celebrate caregivers like Brenda, and suggest connecting with SHIP for help in making high-stakes health care decisions on behalf of someone else. Your local SHIP office provides free, unbiased support with deciphering Medicare benefits, coordinating providers, working with hospital case managers, and contacting insurance providers on your behalf for assistance or clarification.
