The article highlights how the UNM Project ECHO telementoring model was leveraged to build virtual communities of practice and strengthen military HIV prevention, care, and treatment across 18 countries in Africa and Central America.

*High-Impact LIS Implementation Roles in the Pacific Islands*

Use your laboratory information system skills to improve patient care, and strengthen health systems

We are hiring two Laboratory Information Systems Implementers,
1 Specialist and 1 Senior Specialist, to support laboratories across the Pacific Islands.

This short-term, high-impact role (immediate start through end of July) is about more than systems. It’s about building reliable laboratory data flows that support patient care, disease surveillance, and public health decision-making across island communities.

You’ll work side-by-side with laboratory teams to implement, stabilize, and strengthen LIS solutions in real-world, resource-limited settings. These positions require extensive travel across the region.

You bring:
✔ Hands-on LIS/LIMS implementation experience
✔ Understanding of laboratory workflows & data exchange
✔ Adaptability, independence, and a service mindset
✔ Ability to travel and start immediately

Eligibility:
Must be authorized to work in the USA or Pacific Islands, or able to obtain authorization rapidly.

We wrapped up our BioPREVAIL proof-of-concept pilot for solar-powered GeneXpert TB testing two weeks ago, and the results were amazing.

System testing at two rural sites in Kisumu demonstrated up to 9 hours of continuous testing capability under real-world conditions. Health managers were impressed by the reliability and what this could mean for uninterrupted diagnostics in low-resource settings.

While solar power solutions exist, you almost never see them working in the field for lab diagnostics. This pilot, and our user survey, reinforced that there is a market for lab-tailored solar solutions, as long as specific technical and cost requirements are met. We’re focused on overcoming barriers by getting to the root causes of low uptake.

Reliable solar power isn’t optional, it’s critical biosecurity infrastructure.

This week, GSSHealth team members Enny Handayani, MPH, PMP and Paula Fernandes joined regional health leaders at the Pacific Islands Health Officers Association (PIHOA) Board Meeting in , Republic of the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭.

Enny presented on PIHOA’s Laboratory Data Exchange (LDX) project, which will enable laboratories across the Pacific to strengthen Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) in readiness for LDX implementation.

The LDX initiative will usher in a new era of disease surveillance, allowing laboratories to share timely and accurate diagnostic information, a transformative step toward improving health security across the region.

GSSHealth is proud to support PIHOA’s collaboration with the Association of USAPI Laboratories (AUL) in advancing this vital regional effort.
